NextImg:How Does President Trump Feel About Tiger Woods Dating Former Daughter-in-Law Vanessa?

President Donald Trump was back at it again on Monday — signing executive orders in the Oval Office. Monday's affair caused quite a splash as he was joined by Kid Rock — decked out in rather vibrant patriotic finery — as he signed an executive order aimed at ticket scalping.

As our Ward Clark noted:

On Monday, President Trump signed an executive order aimed at cracking down on ticket scalpers, doing so with the inestimable Kid Rock at his side.

...

The post states in full:

@POTUS is taking executive action to protect fans from exploitative ticket scalping and bring commonsense reforms to live entertainment.

The Order directs the Federal Trade Commission to:

  • Work with the Attorney General to ensure that competition laws are appropriately enforced in the concert and entertainment industry.
  • Rigorously enforce the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act and promote its enforcement by state consumer protection authorities.
  • Ensure price transparency at all stages of the ticket-purchase process, including the secondary ticketing market. — Evaluate and, if appropriate, take enforcement action to prevent unfair, deceptive, and anti-competitive conduct in the secondary ticketing market.
  • The Order directs the Secretary of the Treasury and Attorney General to ensure that ticket scalpers are operating in full compliance with the Internal Revenue Code and other applicable law.
  • Treasury, the Department of Justice, and the FTC will also deliver a report within 180 days summarizing actions taken to address the issue of unfair practices in the live concert and entertainment industry and recommend additional regulations or legislation needed to protect consumers in this industry.

As is his wont, President Trump entertained questions from reporters present for the signing — on a wide range of topics (in addition to whether he might consider wearing Kid Rock's jacket). One question that seemingly came from left field was Fox News' Peter Doocy asking how the president feels about the recent news that his former daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump, is now dating golf great Tiger Woods.

Trump's response was rather notable in several respects.

DOOCY: What is your thought about Tiger Woods now becoming part of the broader Trump family?

TRUMP: Well, I love Tiger, and I love Vanessa. And...they had a great relationship — I happen to think the relationship with my son...was hurt very badly by the witchhunt that went on — Russia, Russia, Russia, and all the crap that they put Don through, who knew nothing about it. But Vanessa and Don had a very good relationship — they have incredible children, five incredible children, all good athletes, all great students, really great. And they broke up, you know, quite a while ago...which was, to me, very sad because I think they're both great, Don and Vanessa.

Tiger actually called me a few months ago...and I have a very special, very good relationship with Tiger — I played golf with him a couple of times over the last month — and he's a fantastic guy and a fantastic athlete. And he told me about it, and I said, "Tiger, that's good, that's good." I'm very happy for both, I just, let 'em both be happy, let 'em both be happy. They're both great.

It's been evident that the Trump family maintains a close relationship with Don's ex — Vanessa seems to be present at most family events — so it's not surprising to hear the president speak fondly of her. It struck me, though, that he seemed genuinely saddened by the breakup of his son's marriage — and it was fascinating to learn he blames it in part on the Russia collusion hoax. We often speak of it in terms of how it affected Trump himself, but it's easy to look past the impact it had on his family, as well.

What was clear from the exchange is that President Trump genuinely cares about both his former daughter-in-law and Woods. It might just be me, but it seems like in addition to seeing a focused and more disciplined Donald Trump these days, we're also seeing a softer side of him.
