NextImg:House Oversight Demands Answers: Nearly 8,000 Questionable Transactions on Government Credit Cards

The DOGE just keeps on winning for the taxpayers. And they aren't just uncovering wasteful spending; they are rooting out fraud, as well. But the DOGE isn't the only group out there seeking out waste and fraud in government.

Government waste is rampant in Washington these days, but deliberate fraud and abuse of government credit cards is, if anything, worse than simple waste; fraud is a greater level of corruption, in which there is a deliberate decision made to abuse government spending authority. That is what the Department of Defense Inspector General has found: Over 8,000 questionable transactions on government credit cards - and the House Oversight Committee is demanding answers.

Chairman @RepJamesComer and @SenJoniErnst want accountability.

There is an attached letter from the Oversight Committee Chairman, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) and Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) to the Comptroller General of the United States, Gene Dodaro.

Here's the onion:

This lack of oversight is further underscored by a recent DoD Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG) report, which found 7,805 transactions at "known high-risk merchants," including casino ATMs and mobile application stores. The report also found 3,246 purchases made at "Bars Lounges, Discos, Nightclubs, and Taverns - Alcoholic Drinks merchants" during holidays or major sporting events. We are skeptical these charges were for legitimate purposes or in the service of the DoD's mission for which the cards were issued.

They're skeptical. You don't say.

If you'll allow me a moment's speculation: It's a vanishingly small chance that even one of these transactions was for legitimate purposes. These people were partying on the taxpayers' dime, and while Rep. Comey and Senator Ernst are correct to demand answers, there also have to be severe consequences for any person found to be abusing a government credit card. Jail time would not come amiss. These people are defrauding the taxpayers.

This is a system in desperate need of reform. Every federal employee's need for a government credit card should be scrutinized. Every employee who has such a card should have their transactions reviewed monthly by their supervisor or, barring that, an independent authority - and any "high risk" expenditures should be repaid by the employee immediately, or that employee should face termination. That's what every company I ever had a corporate credit card from did, and there have been a few.

This is the kind of thing the DOGE was set up to uncover, and every such instance brought to light just further justifies their efforts. In this case, it's the DoD OIG that has uncovered the fraud, and kudos to them for doing so. Now, in light of this, it seems obvious that a complete audit of the entire system of government-issued credit cards is in order.

DOGE is finding billions of dollars in wasteful spending, and the Democrats are losing their minds as they realize their gravy train and woke projects are coming to an end.
