As my colleague Rusty Weiss reported, Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) predicted the response to the news of Monday's tragic mass shooting in New York, which left five dead, including NYPD officer Didarul Islam.
“On Capitol Hill, probably beginning in the morning, there’ll be the inevitable call by some of my colleagues for more gun control laws,” Kennedy envisioned.
“We’ve got hundreds of gun control laws, Sean. Maybe thousands. We don’t need more gun control, we need more idiot control, and I don’t know exactly how to do that," he lamented.
Neither do we, Senator. Right now, the idiots that need to be controlled are the ones who cannot seem to get this concept through their thick skulls.

Like Pavlov's dog, they heard "mass shooting" and "AR-15," and they salivated. From that moment forward, it's been Idiots on Parade. Texas state Sen. Roland Gutierrez gave new credence to the need for intelligence tests for those seeking elective office.
Unlike Texas, New York has some of the most restrictive gun laws on the books. They even jailed New York citizen Dexter Taylor for building his own guns at home as a hobby!
So, as they say in the South, "that dog don't hunt." My colleague Jim Thompson sought to educate Gutierrez, as did several others.
But what can you do for somebody like reported shooter Shane Tamura, who doesn't care about your gun laws and chooses not to follow them? The AR-15 rifle Tamura used to carry out his horrible murders is illegal in New York City and the entire state. It has been since former Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the SAFE Act into law in 2013. But apparently Tamura didn't bother to get the memo... or care to read it.
Current NY Gov. Kathy Hochul boasts on the government website about how restrictive the state's gun laws are. U.S. representative Ritchie Torres (D-NY) should know all about this. Yet, he trotted himself out on CNN to decry wEApOnZ OF WaR!
Another of New York's congressional brain trusts, Rep. Jerry Nadler (Democrat, of course), had no answer to why criminals don't follow gun laws. Instead, he bemoaned the "epidemic" of gun violence because of "easy access" to, you guessed it, wEApOnZ OF WaR!
Okay...
Gun violence in this country is an epidemic. The tragic loss of a brave police officer and innocent civilians is far too common. From Columbine to Sandy Hook, from the Tree of Life synagogue to the Pulse nightclub, from Charleston to today’s shooting in Midtown Manhattan, we must put an end to the easy access to weapons of war that continue to take innocent lives.
As if those weapons of war just get up by themselves and randomly attack people. Riddle us this, Rep. Nadler: The criminal in Traverse City, MI who attacked people at a Walmart using a knife was prevented from killing anyone and held at bay by a good guy with a gun and other good Samaritans who helped him. So, which was the "weapon of war?" The knife or the gun? Will Nadler decry knife violence as vociferously as he does gun violence?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Not to be excluded from the Idiot brigade, British-American "journalist" Mehdi Hasan weighed in.
If Hasan had done his research before rattling off his hot take, he'd know that "folks" can't just "walk around in the street with an AR-15" in this country. Across the U.S., there are varying degrees of permitting and restrictions to carry a firearm, and 11 states have total bans on AR-15 or equivalent rifles. What Americans who believe in the Second Amendment and our right to exercise it find insane is that everyone is not allowed to walk the streets with an AR-15 or whatever firearm they choose. Had that been the case on Monday in Manhattan, Tamura would not have been able to blithely strut down Park Avenue and enter that skyscraper with his AR-15 and slaughter four people and injure another.
