Amid all the serious and consequential things going on in the world, the first game of regular-season NFL football was played Thursday night, featuring the Dallas Cowboys playing against the 2025 Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles emerged victorious, winning 24-20 in their home opener.
Among the excitement one often sees at the start of regular-season games has been speculation over whether pop star Taylor Swift would be performing the halftime show at the next Super Bowl, considering her highly publicized relationship and now engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
The latest info is that Swift is supposedly in "negotiations," with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell proclaiming on the "Today Show" Wednesday that "We would always love to have Taylor play. She is a special, special talent. And obviously, she would be welcome at any time."

Though Swift has at times been a polarizing figure, thanks in part to her leftist political leanings, she unquestionably has a large fanbase worldwide.
Among them, apparently, is Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), who thought it would be a neat idea to post his support on Friday to his X followers for a Taylor Swift Super Bowl halftime performance in 2026:
I’m a huge fan of the NFL but it’s hard to get me to a game. If Taylor Swift is the Super Bowl halftime show - I’m going!
Kelly saying that out loud and with such enthusiasm sparked some pretty hilarious reactions:
Democrats are just so... bad with the "let's try to relate with the common man/woman" stuff. It's really embarrassing.
