NextImg:Hoo Boy - Ocasio-Cortez Reportedly Mulling 2028 Presidential Run

It's rather obvious to point out that the 2028 elections are a long way off. We haven't even reached the midterms yet, which are still over a year away. But these days, it seems presidential election seasons begin approximately nine minutes after the polls close on the previous presidential election season. Among Democrats, the positioning for 2028 runs has been underway for a while, even as the recriminations over the 2024 loss are still whipping back and forth.

If recent history is any indication, the Democrats will select a 2028 slate that will be the campaign equivalent of Pickett's Charge, and as evidence, I offer that New York's own loony left Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is mulling a 2028 run.

To which I can only say, "Yes, please do."

Progressive New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is eyeing a run for president in 2028, according to a report Friday.

The socialist “Squad” member is positioning herself to seek higher office as she’s attempted to grow her presence across the country and Empire State, people familiar with her operation told Axios in a Friday report.

Ocasio-Cortez and her team are deciding on whether to run for the White House or the Senate, sources told the outlet.

Now, in a Senate run, she might have a chance. There was some talk of her challenging Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), the current Senate Minority Leader, who was first elected to the Senate sometime in the mid-Oligocene. But even a New York Senate seat would be a challenge compared to her city district, which would elect a stuffed iguana if it had a "D" after its name.

But AOC's own brand of democratic socialism may not play so well outside of the city. And, in the recent "Fighting Oligarchy" tour, on which she embarked with the fossilized, daffy old Bolshevik from Vermont, Bernie Sanders (I-VT) she gained more than anything else a reputation for hypocrisy, what with the private charter jets and all.

Oh, and let's not forget the Met Gala affair, in which we saw one of the more delicious bits of irony in recent history as AOC showed up in a nearly $3,000 dress with "Tax the Rich" splashed in red across her fundament.

Of course, there's the possibility she could just run as a spoiler.

Some allies reportedly think that even if she doesn’t think she could win the nomination for president, she would run for the White House so the left wing of the Democratic (sic) has a stake in the primary – similar to Sanders’ run in 2016.

I'm not so sure. AOC doesn't seem to me like the "tilting at windmills" type.

A few years ago, I would have said that the Democrats would never have chosen a far-left, inarticulate, and, frankly, not terribly bright "democratic socialist" as their presidential pick. But... Kamala Harris. So, could it happen? Unlikely. Impossible, though? No. But imagine a presidential debate between AOC and, say, JD Vance. Now that would be a sight - and an event that would certainly allow Vice President Vance the opportunity to once more unleash his famous, fourth-wall-breaking smirk.

So, to the Democratic Party, I can only say, Nominate AOC for the 2028 presidential election? Please do!
