Some have been speculating that Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) might run for Governor of New York.
Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul's term is up in 2026.
Frankly, Stefanik may have ended her on Thursday even without any campaign during a House hearing about sanctuary state policies and the harm they cause. Hochul was already operating at a deficit, being a Democrat defending a ridiculous position. But then Stefanik went to town on her, asking her if she knew any of the names that Stefanik was listing of alleged criminal illegal aliens in her state. She left Hochul stammering.
Hochul had to admit she didn't know the names, even though Stefanik noted they were "high-profile cases" that New Yorkers know about. Stefanik said she bet Hochul would remember after she reminded her of the case of the man accused of lighting a woman on fire in the subway and burning her alive. Stefanik said ICE issued an order to detain this individual, but it was rejected due to sanctuary state laws.
"You're not advocating for these victims," Stefanik blasted Hochul, as Hochul tried to justify herself.
Hochul acknowledged they were "horrific crimes." Stefanik replied, "Horrific crimes committed on your watch."
Hochul accused her of going for the "viral moment." But Stefanik wasn't having that, saying Hochul, rather than prioritizing New Yorkers, was prioritizing the "far-left sanctuary state policies which you put in place." No amount of words was going to clean this up, Stefanik said.
There is a fundamental difference in approach, and, unfortunately, New Yorkers pay for it big time with such Democrat policies. On top of the bad policy, Hochul had to know that she was going to be called on the carpet over all this, but it doesn't sound like she reviewed any of these cases to prepare. She looked clueless about things she should know. Talking about a "viral moment" isn't much of a defense, and yes, it has become a viral moment because of her bad responses, in addition to the bad policy.
Add this to the Democrats' continuing bad embrace of illegal aliens and demonizing of federal law enforcement, which has also helped to leave Los Angeles in turmoil.

Americans don't want any of this, they want to be safe in their homes, in the streets, and on the subway. Yet Democrats don't seem to prioritize them and don't seem to be getting what people are saying to them on the matter.
Even in New York, which normally votes for Democrat governors, Hochul may be in trouble. People are just tired of this, and they want it stopped.
Folks on X loved that Hochul got served by Stefanik.
Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
