NextImg:Hilarious: MSNBC, CNN in Tailspin, Fox Remains Tops in Ratings

One of the funnier aspects of our current political scene here in the United States is how so much of the legacy media has bent themselves into pretzels trying to get something to stick to President Trump or any member of his administration. Their efforts have been for naught, except in the amusing fact that the ratings of the two worst cable-news offenders, CNN and MSNBC, are crashing. The more neutral Fox News, though? They're doing quite well, thank you very much.

MSNBC and CNN suffered staggering losses in viewership over the past year — while Donald Trump’s ascendancy supercharged Fox News in the cable news ratings war.

The left-leaning networks — which will both be spun off by their respective parent companies — suffered year-over-year declines in all major metrics for the second quarter compared to the same period last year, according to the latest Nielsen data, which was reported by AdWeek.

Comcast-owned MSNBC, with its rabid anti-Trump lineup of anchors, drew an average 1.008 million primetime viewers from April to June, a year-over-year decline of 15%, Nielsen figures show.

A brief sampling of their coverage will tell you why; these are networks where Trump Derangement Syndrome is ingrained into their very culture (CNN's wonderful Scott Jennings being the exception), and they will ally themselves with anyone to oppose the Trump administration.

Fox News, on the other hand:

Fox News, meanwhile, continued to dominate its rivals — extending its winning streak to 94 consecutive quarters as the top-rated cable news network.

The conservative network’s total primetime viewership spiked 25%, averaging 2.633 million, and 34%, to 304,000, in the demo compared to the second quarter of last year.

During total day, it climbed 25% in total viewers, to 1.632 million viewers, and drew 202,000 in the demo, a 31% increase, compared to last year.

It was the second-highest-rated second quarter in network history with weekday total day viewers, trailing its coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, according to AdWeek.

That's pretty funny, as well as being a generator of economy-sized schadenfreude.

Of course, most of these shows are, granted, opinion shows. They are not expected to be impartial. I mean, here I am, a member of the new media myself, and I'm anything but impartial; I'm an advocate. I do, however, report facts as they are, and if I offer my opinion in support of or against a policy statement based on those facts, then it is my opinion. CNN and MSNBC have advocates, as well, but it is that constant leftward creep that is dooming them; they are, month by month, year by year, farther and farther out of touch with the American mainstream, and their viewership ratings sure show it. Add to that the fact (hah) that most of their talking heads wouldn't recognize a fact if it showed up dressed in a copy of Aristotle's "Organon," holding a huge sign reading "I'm a fact," dancing a buck-and-wing and singing "Happy facts are here again!"

Will they ever catch on? As I mentioned above, CNN has Scott Jennings, and if that network were smart, they would give Mr. Jennings a prime-time show and hire a dozen more just like him, not to replace the lefties, but to balance them. MSNBC would be well-advised to do the same. Will they, though? Probably not. And that's fine. Let them sink beneath the waves of media history.

My old buddy, who happens to be a pretty far-left guy, politically - he thought Barack Obama was a little too far to the right to suit him - gets most of his political news from MSNBC and NPR. I regularly twit him about that, noting that every time he tunes into Rachel Maddow, he increases her viewership from eight to nine. If they stick to their present unhinged course, that joke may well become reality. And, as the kids say, I'm so down with that.
