Meet John Dean, the former Republican presidential advisor, writing recently in the Hill newspaper and bemoaning Donald Trump’s evil desire to gain a third term in the presidency because Trump “likes constitutional end runs.”
Note that John Dean is not to be confused with James Dean, the movie star, or Jimmy Dean, the sausage king.
John Dean used to be a White House Counsel for Republican President Richard Nixon in the '70s. Nixon valued Dean because he was friendly with the Barry Goldwater family and had other good political connections, and Dean was young, and Nixon thought he had appeal to the younger generation. This allowed Dean to get his high position despite his checkered past at the Big Law firm, Welch & Morgan. During the Watergate scandal, John Dean turned on Nixon and eventually testified before Congress. In his testimony, he implicated administration officials. Dean’s Congressional testimony during the Watergate hearings, which included the famous line “There's a cancer on the presidency”, attracted very high television ratings, and media attention grew with more detailed coverage. Dean was the first Nixon administration official to accuse Nixon of direct involvement with Watergate and the resulting cover-up in press interviews.
Richard Nixon, for those who don’t remember, was the original Hitler Republican President devil. Democrats hated him with a passion even greater than they do Donald Trump (whom Nixon corresponded with and praised). My Democrat grandfather was still fulminating about Richard Nixon – or “Tricky Dick” – in the late '90s, long after the president’s death; the propaganda was that powerful.
Since he turned on Nixon in 1973 and was disbarred as a lawyer for his felony, John Dean has had one and only one job – repeat Democrat talking points about the evil of the current Republican leader(s). In particular, he has made a career of popping his head up occasionally in the MSM and shrieking (either) “Current GOP Leader is Worse than Nixon/Current GOP Scandal is Worse than Watergate.”
And I have the receipts.
Now John Dean has a whole new Trump (47) term to make some more money by bashing President Donald Trump as a Republican Hitler devil. And as we can see, he is starting early!
Unfortunately for the Democrats, however, they really need to start planning for the future. John Dean is getting pretty long in the tooth, right now, at age 86. His days of use to them as a Prominent-Republican-Who-Bashes-Current-Republicans is surely coming to a close. So, they really need to start auditioning for the next Republican John Dean.
Perhaps they will favor someone currently in the Trump 47 White House? Any suggestions from my audience?
