That sound you hear is pink slips being readied for an untold number of federal workers after Senate Democrat Minority Leader Chuck Schumer decided to shut down the entire federal government. We're closing in on the end of Day 1 of the Schumer Shutdown, and the consequences of the Democrats' actions are now coming into sharper focus.
According to Politico, Office of Budget and Management (OMB) Director Russ Vought revealed in a private call Wednesday that mass firings and/or layoffs in the federal workforce would begin over the next day or two, meaning pink slips could be flying by the end of the week. Votes have consequences, as it turns out.
OMB chief Russ Vought told House Republicans on a private call Wednesday that the administration will start mass reduction in force moves, or firings, of federal workers “in a day or two,” according to four people granted anonymity to describe the call.
That's not all, Vought also warned that, as a result of the Senate Democrats' actions, "money is about to run out for both the nutrition program for low-income moms and babies, known as WIC, and for pay for active-duty members of the military."
As RedState's Bob Hoge reported earlier on Wednesday, Senate Democrats blocked -- for the third time! -- a continuing resolution that would have kept the federal government funded in the short term while more fine-tuned budget discussions continued.
Here's How a Schumer Shutdown Could Affect You
We reported Tuesday that the repercussions of a Schumer Shutdown would be felt my more than just federal employees whose jobs were on the line -- many American would also face consequences thanks to the Democrat Party's insistence that taxpayers foot the healthcare bills of illegals.
For instance:
- Many in the military would be forced to work without pay;
- Air travel could be disrupted due to air traffic controller shortages;
- Medicare and Medicaid payments would likely be delayed;
- Social Security payments may also be delayed due to likely staff reductions; and,
- National parks will likely be closed.
It's also being reported that OMB's Vought has said that billions of dollars earmarked for infrastructure in New York state would now be under review. New York, of course, is home to both Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem "Sombrero" Jeffries.
And it's not like Democrats weren't warned -- President Trump told them on Tuesday that the party was "taking a risk by having a shutdown." The president was spot on in his assessment, noting, "[Democrats] want to have illegal aliens come into our country and have massive healthcare at the cost to everybody else. And that's, I would say, the number one reason they want [a shutdown] is to get illegal immigrants healthcare." (Here's a White House fact sheet that further details the Democrats Party's plan to fund healthcare for illegals.)
Yet again, we've arrived at the FO portion of FAFO. Democrats rolled the dice on a shutdown to protect illegal immigrant healthcare, and now it looks like many in the federal workforce will pay the price. The Schumer Shutdown is proving to be yet another self-inflicted disaster for the left, who seem determined to always be on the wrong side of every issue.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
