House Republicans, led by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), are launching a new select subcommittee to investigate the truth behind the events surrounding the January 6 Capitol protest. The move is at the urging of President Trump himself.
The subcommittee aims to challenge the findings of the previous Democrat-led January 6 committee, which was clearly a heavily biased, anti-Trump circus meant solely to derail the President's previous campaign.
The President had told House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) before taking office that he wanted to new panel to investigate and correct the record regarding the mostly peaceful protest. Johnson had initially announced the creation of the subcommittee within days of Trump being sworn into office.
Seemingly unhappy with the pace of the process, Trump reportedly called Loudermilk into the Oval Office to find out where the GOP was regarding his request.
“I got called in by the president,” Loudermilk said, according to CNN. “We sat and talked for a while. And he was asking, ‘what is the stall?’ Because he had expected it to be done early in the year too. We talked about it, he engaged with the speaker’s office.”

After engaging the Speaker's office, action was finally taken. The new subcommittee, under the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), will have full subpoena power.
“House Republicans are proud of our work so far in exposing the false narratives peddled by the politically motivated January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress, but there is clearly more work to be done," Johnson said in a statement.
"The resolution introduced today will establish this Select Subcommittee so we can continue our efforts to uncover the full truth that is owed to the American people. House Republicans remain intent on delivering the answers that House Democrats skipped over.”
Loudermilk added that it "is vital that we continue to uncover the facts and begin the task of making needed reforms to ensure this level of security failure may never happen again.”
There is much to investigate. The level of FBI informants in the crowd that day. The killing of Ashli Babbitt. The investigation into the person who planted pipe bombs, seemingly the only individual authorities have been unable to identify from that day. The malicious prosecutions.
Loudermilk had previously accused the Democrats' January 6th committee of failing to preserve a significant number of documents — roughly 1.5-2 terabytes worth.
Republicans had hired a digital forensics team, which determined that the original J6 panel had deleted more than 100 encrypted files days before the GOP took the majority in the House following the 2022 midterms.
Loudermilk also has a bit of a personal stake in trying to correct the record. The Democrat-led committee also pushed a debunked conspiracy theory regarding Loudermilk allegedly conducting a "reconnaissance tour" prior to the protest. It was proven to be fake news by the Capitol Police themselves.
The Democrats were also caught doctoring text message evidence and lied repeatedly to the American people about the circumstances behind police officers working on January 6th, who later died. They did it all through phony tears.
President Trump, in an interview with “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker prior to re-entering the White House, talked about the Democrats' role in pushing a false narrative about the January 6th protest, saying, “Those people committed a major crime.”
Yes, an actionable crime.
“Honestly, they should go to jail,” Trump said.
