Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott ended Democrat Governor of California Gavin Newsom and Texas Democrats who fled the state with a hilarious, brutal message, saying he's still got plenty in his arsenal in this fight over redistricting.
Speaking to Glenn Beck on his podcast on Wednesday, Abbott literally laughed off Newsom who threatened him the day before to stop his plans to vote on a new congressional map that will give Republicans five more seats or else he would, somehow, add five more seats in CA to nullify the move, in a state that Democrats have already gerrymandered to benefit their party.

"Oh, my God," Abbott replied, before breaking into laughter. "Give me a break. For one, there's so many things wrong with that. In Texas, for us to redraw congressional lines and make sure that people in Texas are going to have the ability to vote for the Republican candidate of their choice in these congressional seats, all it requires is for the governor to call a special session on it and for a majority of the Texas House and Senate to vote on it."
"[Newsom] is kind of like someone who shows up to a gunfight but forgot to bring the bullets because he doesn't have any bullets to shoot in this fight," he added. "Whereas Texas has plenty of bullets to shoot — to make sure that we will maintain a congressional district in Texas that's going to be more Republican, more representative of the values and votes in our state."
Abbott noted that the move wasn't just to ensure Republican representation in the Congress for the state, but to act as a bit of a safety net in case Democrats in blue states like CA go "full scale and really rig the system the way that Gavin Newsom is talking about doing. If those rules apply, then Texas can gain more ground than California can."

It comes after Democrats fled the state in order to deny a quorum to vote on the redistricting plans.
Interestingly enough, they fled to blue states like Illinois and Texas. And hearing Democrat Illinois Governor JB Pritzker trying to attack Texas for its redistricting plans has been hilarious. Even leftwing shows like "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" had to point out how insanely Pritzker's state had been gerrymandered to benefit the Democrats.
However, all this nonsense in Texas could soon be over, as my RedState colleague Bonchie reported.
According to ABC News, the runaways who claimed to be saving "democracy" are heading back to their home state early, claiming to have accomplished their goal of raising "awareness" about gerrymandering. That's a very polite way of saying they failed miserably.
He went on:
In other words, the pressure campaign put forth by Republicans was effective. That included stopping direct deposits of paychecks and promising to call multiple special sessions to keep these Texas Democrats stranded in blue states indefinitely unless they returned to provide a quorum. They were also incurring daily fines. That all started to add up for the legislators who aren't independently wealthy, and it was just a matter of time before the donor class got tired of funding a dead end. You also have to factor in time away from family members. None of it was ever sustainable.
