NextImg:Greg Abbott Drops Another Hammer on Runaway TX Dems - They're Not Going to Like This

Texas Democrats who fled the state to break the quorum so redistricting couldn't pass are showing their hypocrisy.

They fled to Illinois in a truly hypocritical move, since Democrats in those states have made gerrymandering an art in the past. This has nothing to do with "saving democracy" because they're blocking democracy by fleeing from doing their job. Everything that would be considered, including flood response, is being blocked because they aren't there--all because they don't want to lose.

But they're also running out of options. They face big fines. Meanwhile, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is taking legal action to bring them back and has moved for the removal of the lead runaway, Texas House Minority Leader Gene Wu. Texas law enforcement is tracking them down, and even the FBI is reportedly involved.

The Democrats think it will be over when the current special session ends. But Gov. Abbott said he's ready for that. He expects a quorum "coming soon." But if not, he will call "special session after special session," until the "job is finished," no matter how long the Democrats try to hold out.

He told NBC that if that's their tactic. they'd better be prepared to not come back until 2027 or 2028, because he'd keep calling special sessions. He said they were turning their backs on their constituents and would lose their jobs in the elections.

Abbott wasn't done there. On the "Ruthless" podcast, he said if Democrats continued down this path, it could get worse for them. "One way or another, they are coming back," he declared, "and it's going to end with these maps being passed."

"What I'm thinking now is that if they don't start showing up, I may start expanding," Abbott said. "We may make it six or seven or eight new seats we're going to be adding on the Republican side."

"The wall just got ten feet higher," joked "Ruthless" co-host Josh Holmes.

Abbott also took a jab at one of the runaway Democrats, Texas House Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Mihaela Plesa. She appeared on Fox with Will Cain, but she was out of state, and they lost the signal. So she didn't get to answer Cain's next question - who is paying for this trip? That's a great question that the Democrats should answer.

Abbott pointed out how the signal at the Texas Capitol was "quite reliable."

That loss of connection is a great metaphor for how out of touch the Democrats are with Texas on this issue.
