The Department of Justice has launched a grand jury investigation targeting New York Attorney General Letitia James (D), focusing on allegations of deprivation of rights related to her $454 million civil fraud lawsuit against President Donald Trump.
The probe is being run out of Albany. Subpoenas have already reportedly been delivered for documents concerning James' lawsuit, which accused Trump of inflating his net worth to secure favorable loan terms.
Fox News Digital reports that James' office received the subpoenas for documents and information pertaining to that case this week.
The grand jury investigation is at its early stages, according to reports, but marks a clear escalation in the DOJ's attempts to hold James accountable for potential rights violations and potential abuse of her office against the president.

Opinion: Trump’s ‘Revenge’ Needs to Be More Than Success, It Needs to Be Revenge
Letitia James vowed to target Trump before even being elected. She promised to prosecute him. It was all driven by higher aspirations. But that greed appears to have navigated Tish straight into the "find out" portion of having effed around.
The malicious Democrat AG managed to extract a massive fine from Trump over well-established real estate practices. James's efforts were widely panned by legal and business experts, with even MSNBC questioning at one point if it was an "unfair" use of the legal system.
"Shark Tank" star Kevin O’Leary described the massive fines levied against Trump in the civil fraud case as “appalling” and “un-American.” Which would be accurate descriptors of James's entire tenure as AG.
“What developer doesn’t ask for the highest price valued for any building they built?” he told the New York Post.
It is a reference to the crux of James’ argument, that Trump overvalued his properties. Which everybody in the real estate business does.
Even Don Peebles, a former prominent fundraiser for both of Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns, hammered Tish for going after Trump, not based on enforcing the law, but as a personal attack.
“I have expressed concern that I think that this is a very slippery slope to selectively enforce an archaic law that has got no victim,” he stated.
An investigation into whether or not James violated Trump's civil rights through malicious prosecution is well-warranted.
The New York Post reports that New York's Attorney General also received a subpoena regarding her probe into the NRA. However, their source "did not indicate whether the probe included recent claims of mortgage fraud by the AG on properties in Brooklyn and Virginia."
Earlier this year, the Justice Department opened an investigation into James over allegations of mortgage fraud. She is accused of making false or misleading statements on property records and loan applications.
As RedState reported earlier this week, Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced the LETITIA Act, named after James, to impose mandatory minimum sentences for public officials convicted of bank, loan, or tax fraud.
The legislation aims to hold James and other officials accountable for abusing their positions, escalating penalties for repeated offenses to up to five years for bank or loan fraud and two years for tax fraud. Sen. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, is facing similar allegations.
"This legislation would empower President Trump to hold crooked politicians like New York’s Letitia James accountable for defrauding their constituents, violating their oath of office, and breaking the law, and I’m proud to lead my Republican colleagues in introducing it," Cornyn said in a statement.
