Following the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI’s conclusion that Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide and had no client list, many on the right have voiced their frustration. But Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) offered a provocative explanation for why the Epstein files still haven’t been fully released.
Burchett joined NewsNation host Leland Vittert, and one of the topics discussed was the DOJ and FBI's conclusion of the Epstein case. Burchett said:
“I think the files existed at one time. I think they were destroyed in the previous administration.”
Some will raise the question: If the list once existed but was destroyed before Trump 2.0, why did Attorney General Pam Bondi go on Fox News and say that she had the Epstein files on her desk and was ready to review them?
But Burchett was asked about Bondi's comments, and he said she has no proof that the Epstein files were destroyed:
"She [Bondi] doesn’t have any proof of it. I’m just telling you what I think. I’ve been around this town enough,” the lawmaker continued. “I think she got over her skis pretty much saying all this stuff, the files are on my desk, I’m going to release it, and then she releases stuff that I knew. I think they all got out there, got a little excited, and I don’t think they exist,” he added, referring to the files.
"I think if they’d ever had anything on Trump, it would have been out Day 1 under the Biden administration. I think there’s some very prominent people. There’s Hollywood people,” he added. “I mean, I think there’s world leaders too. And would it have caused economic disruption around the globe? Maybe. But I don’t really care. I want to bury those dirtbags.”
When asked about Elon Musk's post about President Trump regarding the matter, Burchett said:
“I think if they’d ever had anything on Trump, it would have been out Day 1 under the Biden administration. I think there’s some very prominent people. There’s Hollywood people,” he added. “I mean, I think there’s world leaders too. And would it have caused economic disruption around the globe? Maybe. But I don’t really care. I want to bury those dirtbags.”
The Epstein files remain a source of deep public frustration. While the DOJ insists there’s no client list and no conspiracy, many—including Rep. Burchett—believe powerful interests are still being protected. With continued calls for transparency and growing distrust in institutions, the demand for full accountability isn't going away anytime soon.
