Good morning, and welcome to RedState's "Morning Minute" — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.

Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy's Fundraising Email Will Crack You Up—Mamdani 'Like Karl Marx at a Drag Show'

The thing about Kennedy is that not only is he funny, but he’s usually right on target. Mamdani is, as the senator pointed out, way, way out there.

'Hook, Line, and Sinker': Trump Lays Trap for Democrats on Mamdani, and Hakeem Jeffries Takes the Bait

Taking bets on how long it will take before Jeffries, Schumer, and Hochul fold and endorse Mamdani just to spite Trump. My guess is mid-August at the earliest.

July 4, 2025—What Could Have Been

On this July 4th, I am most thankful for a Trump presidency because of the cultural implications of a Harris presidency would have been, well, a Harris presidency.

Maine College Professors Attacks Christian Student's 2A Beliefs With Asinine Argument

For someone who is teaching students to write a persuasive argument--and I distinctly remember this assignment in English 101--it's clear the professor doesn't know how to craft one, and it's clear that she tried.

Oops, Narrative Fail

If you were to sit down and analyze what Democrats say to make their arguments on various issues, you would see narrative fails like this all the time. But because the issues are discussed in different contexts, the contradictions don't stand out to many people.

The Second American Civil War Will Be Fought Mostly by U-Hauls

Demographic shifts in the purple states are the ones to watch. They should be good indicators of whether the estrangement is trying to become permanent.

The Decline and Fall of Our So-Called Degreed Experts

Add it all up, and the reputation of our predictors, prognosticators, and experts has been radically devalued to the point of utter worthlessness.

Busted! Tulsi Gabbard Reveals That WaPo Reporter Is Anonymously Harassing ODNI Officers

If they try to undermine these agencies or the administration with unlawful leaks from within, Tulsi Gabbard and the ODNI will find them, burner phone or no burner phone.

Today on Capitol Hill...

After a tumultuous week as they wrangled the One Big Beautiful Bill over the finish line, the critters are off for the holiday weekend, and all's quiet-ish on the Capitol front. They'll be back at it next week, however, or at least, the Senate will be. The House decided to take a longer break after all the hubbub, though they do still have some hearings set.

White House What's Up

President Donald Trump is rightly in a celebratory mood. He'll host a signing (of the OBBB) celebration Friday afternoon beginning at 4:00 PM Eastern. Then he and First Lady Melania will participate in the Military Family Picnic on the South Lawn, followed by the Fourth of July celebration before departing later in the evening for Bedminster.

Full Court Press...

The Supreme Court handed the Trump administration a significant win on Thursday when it clarified its prior stay of Massachusetts District Court Judge Brian Murphy's preliminary injunction barring removal of criminal illegal aliens to third countries (and stalling/stranding a contingent with their DHS escorts in Djibouti in the process). Yes, when it said stay, it meant stay, and yes, that applied to any derivative orders designed to enforce the original injunction.

Between that and the CASA v. Trump decision last week, hopefully, the lower courts are starting to get the message that they need to get back in their lane.

As noted previously, next week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be visiting the White House. Something tells me there will be some news to come from that.

The Senate will be back in session and hosting hearings.

And we will, no doubt, have some notable court rulings.

Following Thursday's passage of the OBBB, I wrote about Speaker Mike Johnson's speech ahead of the vote. It really was an incredible moment, hitting all the right notes. One point he emphasized toward the end of his speech was that our motto is "In God We Trust," not "In Government We Trust." And I do believe he's right that this is key to our nation's success — it has a proper, solid foundation.

As we begin celebrating our 250th year as a nation, I am beyond thankful to be a part of this grand experiment. And I am hopeful that we will continue to see it grow and prosper.

Wishing a Happy and Blessed Independence Day to you all.

I'm cracking up at the song choice...(see if you get it)

Bonus fun because it's the Fourth of July — gotta enjoy a bit of patriotic humor.
