Fascinatingly, woke higher education institutions like Harvard University believe they are entitled to federal funding, to the extent that Harvard has sued the Trump-Vance administration over actions taken in response to the school's defiance of Trump's executive orders on issues like DEI, antisemitism, and men in women's sports.
As RedState reported, Harvard president Alan Garber issued a letter to faculty and students in mid-April stating that "We have informed the administration through our legal counsel that we will not accept their proposed agreement. The University will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights."
In response, Trump's task force on combating antisemitism responded by initiating "a freeze on $2.2 billion in multi-year grants and $60M in multi-year contract value to Harvard University." About a week later, Garber announced that "Moments ago, we filed a lawsuit to halt the funding freeze because it is unlawful and beyond the government’s authority."

To someone on the outside looking in, who is just a passive observer when it comes to what happens at our institutions of higher learning, they might look at what President Trump is doing and ask, "Why is he picking on Harvard?"
As only he can, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) explained during a Fox Business interview why all of this is happening:
Here's what I hear President Trump saying: Harvard is an overpriced indoctrination mill. There are other schools, but Harvard is the leader of the pack. The purpose of higher education is to make you think, not make you feel comfortable. The purpose of higher education is to teach you a variety of points of view.
Harvard doesn't practice that. Harvard practices [in] its faculty and administration ideology conformity, ideology capture. From their point of view, they believe in only certain things. And you can't believe in anything else. For example, they believe in racial quotas. Well, they're illegal. Harvard believes in diversity, equity, inclusion, and the right to hurt Jewish people. Well, that's illegal.
Now, they're entitled to believe what they want, but they're not entitled to break the law and still get taxpayer money.

In another clip, Kennedy shared why he feels Harvard is about to "find out" [in a court of law] that they are in the wrong:
We've gotta be careful here. Not all schools are like Harvard. I'll give you two examples: the University of Chicago and Vanderbilt University. They have both practiced viewpoint diversity, and I don't think they ought to be punished.
But Harvard's attitude is 'we can do what we want, and we have a Constitutional right to the money.' And, I think they're wrong, and I think they're gonna find out how wrong they are.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is very much looking forward to finding out how the "find out" part of this is going to play out in the coming months.
