As Democrats throw anything they can at the wall to see if it sticks, they just seem to be digging the hole they have dug for themselves deeper. In November, they lost nearly all of their most important voting blocs. One of those voting blocs was young men. Maybe telling those young men that masculinity was toxic was not exactly a winning message for them. Now, one of the most far-left commentators thinks he might have the answer for a party that cannot seem to figure out what it stands for, and hang onto your hats, because this one's a doozy.
One of the usual suspects, far-left MSNBC fixture Ellie Mystal, recently wrote an article for the equally far-left website "The Nation." His idea for Democrats to come back from their resounding defeat last November is in the title, "Democrats Should Become the Pro-Porn Party." Yep, you read right. Mystal says that the one way they can bring young male voters back to the party is to embrace their traditionally open-minded sexual history. Mystal argues that embracing porn should not be "taboo," and is a free speech issue. Donald Trump won the majority of the male vote in 2024, and Democrats have been trying to figure out how to bring those men back to the party ever since—but with little success.
But Mystal also point out another "useful" aspect to the Democrat party embracing porn. It will help those young men decide which one of the Democrats' favorite victim groups they belong to. Mystal writes,
“Now, to be clear, pornography is viewed and enjoyed by all sorts of people, male and female, gay and straight, trans and cis. Indeed, one of the highest, best uses of porn (I can’t believe I just wrote that) is that it helps young people figure out what they’re actually into. Sex-positive porn enjoyers are not a political demographic the Democrats generally have a problem with.”
But as usual, Democrats give no thought to the collateral damage their inane ideas leave behind. Easy access to online pornography has lowered the average age of exposure to eight years old. That easy access to online smut for children is apparently not a problem for another usual suspect, self-described "journalist" Taylor Lorenz. Lorenz put out a response to Mystal's article, saying, "YES PLEASE! (multiple exclamation points for effect)!!! I'm screaming to the void about this. So grateful for your piece."
But Ellie Mystal wasn't done. He goes on to argue that pornography is a First Amendment issue, and that Republicans have tried to restrict those First Amendment rights in the past.
That’s because pornography is an actual free speech issue. So is smut. So is obscenity. These are forms of free speech that conservatives and Republicans in the government are constantly trying to regulate… Liberals are the people who are supposed to be at the vanguard of free expression when it comes to sexy time.
Democrats attempting to portray Republicans as a bunch of puritanical prudes is nothing new. But being the porn party in the latest attempt to win back voting blocs they have alienated because of out of touch far-left ridiculous ideas is definitely a new twist. They recently spent $20 million on a study to understand why men, predominantly young men, have abandoned them. If the next great idea was to embrace porn in an attempt to get the attention of men, they must not have gotten a whole lot of answers for their $20 million.
Among ourselves, Republicans keep shaking our heads and asking, "What will they (Democrats) think of next?" Democrats are now obviously taking that as a challenge.
