NextImg:DOE Takes a Scalpel to 'Nearly $8B' in Blue States' Green Energy Waste During Schumer Shutdown

The Democrats appear to have miscalculated on triggering a government shutdown by a vast measure, which we started to see in motion mere hours after the Schumer Shutdown began on Oct. 1.

RedState wrote about the imminent federal government firings and layoffs:

According to Politico, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russ Vought revealed in a private call Wednesday that mass firings and/or layoffs in the federal workforce would begin over the next day or two, meaning pink slips could be flying by the end of the week. Votes have consequences, as it turns out.

OMB chief Russ Vought told House Republicans on a private call Wednesday that the administration will start mass reduction in force moves, or firings, of federal workers “in a day or two,” according to four people granted anonymity to describe the call.

Then as my colleague Ward Clark wrote earlier on Thursday, President Trump signaled in a Truth Social post he was eager to sit down with OMB head Vought in the afternoon, to dig into what extraneous government spending might get cut--especially anything prized by the Democrats.

Here Come the Pink Slips: Mass Firings and Layoffs Reportedly Imminent in Wake of Schumer Shutdown

We may have had a preview of this, though, from something Vought posted on his X account on Wednesday afternoon -- "Nearly $8 billion in Green New Scam funding to fuel the Left’s climate agenda is being cancelled” -- then he hinted that the Energy Dept. would fill in the details shortly:

Before we go any further, did you notice what the states listed above have in common? They're all blue states that have bought in on the climate change hoax to the tune of millions of dollars each -- courtesy of American taxpayer dollars.

Anyway, sure enough, on Wednesday evening, the Energy Department chimed in, sharing in a press release posted on X that after a review that started in May, they had "determined that these projects did not adequately advance the nation’s energy needs, were not economically viable, and would not provide a positive return on investment of taxpayer dollars."

Here are the offices and agencies that were awarded the money:

Long story short, the DOE said to the green energy scammers: Not on our watch.

The Energy Department...said it terminated 321 awards supporting 223 projects, worth about $7.56 billion. Roughly a quarter of those were awarded between Election Day and Inauguration Day, the department said.

And as Politico helpfully noted in the story linked above, though two of the states current have Republican governors, both Vermont and New Hampshire voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024. I'm going to leave you with the reactions from two California politicians to the Trump administration's wise stewardship.

As you might have guessed, one of the projects is in California, and news of the over $1 billion project being scrapped already has Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom stomping his feet about it.

The cuts include $1.2 billion for California’s hydrogen hub that is aimed at accelerating hydrogen technology and production, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office. The private sector has committed $10 billion for the hydrogen hub, Newsom’s office said, adding that canceling the Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems threatens over 200,000 jobs

"Clean hydrogen deserves to be part of California’s energy future — creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs and saving billions in health costs," Newsom said.

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) is also crying, but it's more along his usual talking points on the country being in peril. In a quote-tweet on Vought's X post announcing the cuts, he wrote:

“Our democracy is badly broken when a president can illegally suspend projects for Blue states in order to punish his political enemies."

And guess what? As RedState wrote, they're going to keep stomping their feet and being mad, since the Energy Department hinted recently that they're looking to slough off a grand total of $13 billion in former Pres. Joe Biden's climate change boondoggles.

As someone once said, "Elections have consequences."

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals.
