It's yet another day in this wild news cycle, and we are so here for it.
As we reported earlier, Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) tried to storm an LA press conference Thursday that featured Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem speaking to reporters about the Los Angeles riots and the Trump administration's response to that, as well as the ongoing ICE immigration sweeps being conducted in the area.
Videos show that it didn't go well for Padilla, whose erratic behavior seemed to alarm FBI agents, who proceeded to forcibly pull him out of the room as he continued to resist and take him down to the ground in a hallway before handcuffing him.

As we also noted, we're already seeing some pretty predictable reactions from Democrats, including Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who gave a Senate floor speech stating, "I just saw something that sickened my stomach; the manhandling of a United States Senator. We need immediate answers to what the hell went on." The Congressional Hispanic Caucus also reportedly staged a scene, marching to House Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-LA) office to protest what happened and demand answers.
Not surprisingly, Gov. Gavin "Hairgel" Newsom weighed in as well, whining about alleged "dictatorial" behavior from President Trump and his "shock troops":
Tricia McLaughlin, DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, pushed back in response:
Senator Padilla chose disrespectful political theatre and interrupted a live press conference without identifying himself or having his Senate security pin on as he lunged toward Secretary Noem.
Mr. Padilla was told repeatedly to back away and did not comply with officers’ repeated commands. @SecretService thought he was an attacker and officers acted appropriately.
Secretary Noem met with Senator Padilla after and held a 15 minute meeting.
McLaughlin also shared a video with Newsom that showed how aggressively bizarre Padilla was acting, which no doubt factored into the FBI's decision to confront a perceived threat:
The video does show Padilla saying, "I'm Sen. Alex Padilla," but they also should be wearing pins that denote who they are, and DHS says Padilla wasn't wearing his, which obviously would have been a red flag to the agents in light of the way he was acting.
I mean, anyone who wasn't Padilla could have rushed in and made the same claim, and agents obviously can't just operate on word alone, especially considering the threats ICE and DHS already face on a daily basis.
Undoubtedly, this incident is going to be wildly spun by Democrats to portray the Trump administration in the worst possible light, all while hoping people forget that the real dictator in this dance is the guy who effectively shut down his state during the COVID pandemic while he himself flauted his own draconian rules by attending fancy dinners at places like French Laundry and taking out of state trips.
Don't go away mad, Gavin Newsom. Just go away.
