The bloody results of the Biden administration's open borders just keep getting worse. Especially heinous crimes like the murders of Laken Riley, Rachel Morin, and Joselyn Nungary have shocked the nation. They were completely preventable, and all three should still be alive. But the policies of blue states that encourage and normalize illegal immigrants are being felt in other ways as well. One of those polices is issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, many of whom can't speak or read English. One recent incident is now highlighting just how dangerous this is, and the Department of Transportation has launched an investigation.
The entire nation was horrified at the now-viral video of the driver of an 18-wheeler, who attempted to make an illegal U-turn on a Florida highway that resulted in a horrific crash killing three people. The driver, Harjinder Singh, is an illegal immigrant from India who entered the U.S. from Mexico in 2018. He has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide. However, how Singh came to be on a Florida highway where he killed three people involves several blue states and their coddling of illegal immigrants.
In 2024, Singh was issued a limited-term/non-domiciled CDL, a permit that would be issued to someone who can legally work in the U.S. but is not a citizen. So, even though he is here illegally, he is deemed by the state of California to be eligible for this license. It gets better. A year earlier, the state of Washington issued Singh a regular full-term commercial driver's license (CDL). Department of Transportation rules state that asylum seekers and those without legal status are ineligible for this type of license.
There's still more. On July 3, about a month before the Florida crash, Singh was stopped for speeding in New Mexico, where State Police gave him a roadside inspection. There is nothing to suggest that Singh was given an English language proficiency (ELP) test when he was stopped. In an interview with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCS), Singh was given an ELP test and failed, getting only two of twelve verbal questions correct and identifying just one of four highway traffic signs. Two days after the crash, the FMCS began an on-site compliance investigation into Singh's employer, White Hawk Carriers in California.
On Tuesday, the Department of Transportation announced the investigation into the crash. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy issued a statement, saying,
“If states had followed the rules, this driver would never have been behind the wheel and three precious lives would still be with us. This crash was a preventable tragedy directly caused by reckless decisions and compounded by despicable failures. Non-enforcement and radical immigration policies have turned the trucking industry into a lawless frontier, resulting in unqualified foreign drivers improperly acquiring licenses to operate 40-ton vehicles. We will use every tool at our disposal to hold these states and bad actors accountable. President Trump and I will restore safety to our roads. The families of the deceased deserve justice.”
Currently, 19 states and the District of Columbia issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, and with the possible exception of Virginia, every one is a blue state. And since late June, more than 1,200 truck drivers have been taken off America's highways for failing to adequately speak or read English. But maybe the most chilling thing about this is the fact that Harjinder Singh was able to travel across the country, not being able to read road signs.
Makes you wonder even more, just who is traveling down the highway alongside you.
