NextImg:DeSantis Campaign Blasts Media Outlets for Calling Trump Victory Within Minutes

In a controversial decision, Fox News and other major outlets declared former president Donald J. Trump the winner of the Iowa caucuses mere minutes into the evening. The decision to make that call has some folks, including the DeSantis camp, outraged.

In a statement, DeSantis communications director Andrew Romeo blasted the networks for making such an early call, calling it "absolutely outrageous."

"The media is in the tank for Trump and this is the most egregious example yet," Romeo said in the state, which you can read in full below.

DeSantis Campaign Statement on the Media's Election Interference

DES MOINES, Iowa – The DeSantis campaign released the following statement:

"It is absolutely outrageous that the media would participate in election interference by calling the race before tens of thousands of Iowans even had a chance to vote. The media is in the tank for Trump and this is the most egregious example yet."- Communications Director Andrew Romeo.

The decision to declare Trump the winner is at odds with standard media practice. In most cases, media organizations wait until voting in a state has concluded before projecting who may be the winner, should results be coming in before everyone is done voting.

Steve Deace, a radio host in Iowa and host on BlazeTV, said he was voting at his caucus location while hearing others say Trump had already won.

The Associated Press, CNN, and NBC News are just some examples of news organizations with strict policies against declaring the winner before everyone in a state has voted.
