NextImg:Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar to Be Indicted By the DOJ, Putting His House Seat in Jeopardy

Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas is facing an imminent indictment from the DOJ related to his business relationship with the nation of Azerbaijan.

As RedState reported, Cuellar's home was raided back in January of 2022, with FBI agents carrying out boxes of materials. At the time, the House member pledged to "fully cooperate," stating that he wanted to see justice and the law upheld.

That didn't save him from the consequences of the investigation.

The Department of Justice intends to indict Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas on Friday, sources familiar with the investigation have told Fox News Digital.

Cuellar won his last race against Republican Cassy Garcia in TX-28, an area that has seen a significant shift toward the GOP due to the border crisis. Even leading up to that race, the Democrat was hounded by accusations that he had taken money from a Mexican politician connected to the drug cartels.

As to his dealings with Azerbaijan that have made his indictment imminent, the details are still unknown. Cuellar's lawyer announced in April that he was not the target of the investigation, a statement that appears to have been false.

Despite the coming indictment, Cuellar has pledged to run for re-election anyway. That's good news for Republicans who are seeking to make inroads in the once-Democrat stronghold. Garcia had previously been critical of the Biden administration's border policies in an attempt to hold back the political tide.

Given how much worse the border has gotten since 2022, his re-election chances could be in trouble when coupled with these latest legal woes. Time will tell.

This is a developing story.
