Democrats keep insisting everything in the District of Columbia is fine. In their customary "Kevin Bacon in the final act of Animal House" way, they ball up their fists and keep screeching, "Remain calm! All is well!" They do this even as the mountains of evidence to the contrary keep piling up. The latest comes to us from the D.C. offices of The Federalist, which, as they note, isn't in a bad neighborhood, but rather only steps away from some of the District's major attractions and government buildings. But that doesn't make them immune from having a crazy vagrant camping in their doorway.
Left-wing journalists and their Democrat friends have been shrieking since Monday about how gloriously safe Washington, D.C., is, and how, as one particularly low-IQ White House correspondent stated, there is a “nonexistent crime crisis” in the nation’s capital.
Homelessness? “Not a problem,” they say. Homicide? “What homicide?” they’ll interject, despite the city having clocked its 100th homicide this year on Monday.
The cowardice and shame in their voices are palpable. First, because they know, from their own life experience, that they are lying, and, second, because, even if they have not experienced D.C.’s crime in a while, it just means they have reached a level of pseudo-immunity unavailable to the countless normal people who have to deal with D.C.’s lawlessness on a daily basis.
It's cowardice and shame, yes, because admitting that the nation's capital city has descended into lawlessness would also mean admitting that decades of Democrat governance have come to naught; the longer Democrats are in charge of a city, the worse things get. This is a fundamental law of the universe, which shall henceforth be known as "Clark's Law of How Over Time Democrats Foul Up Everything They Touch."
The Federalist's office is just the latest proof.
And yet, just one day after President Donald Trump took control of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department with an express purpose of handling homeless vagrants and crime rampant in the city, The Federalist’s own office door was blockaded by a belligerent, drunk homeless man screaming profanities.
It was not just the vagrant leaning against our door. He was joined by two others crowding the sidewalk directly outside.
The Federalist is not located at some office on U Street or another unsavory part of the city. The Federalist’s office is in the middle of D.C., within walking distance of every major government building, monument, and museum. The area sees tens of thousands of tourists and professionals each day.
Two summer interns were trapped in the building, unable to leave because of the angry, drunken vagrant who was apparently leaning on the door. The police were summoned. After over an hour and a half, no police officer had replied to the call. The staff called 911 again, at 3:52 PM, and described the dispatcher as "dismissive." If that's true, then that dispatcher should be fired, and yesterday. An officer finally showed up, explaining that the shift change had delayed the response.
A major metropolitan police department can't respond to 911 calls during shift change?
The officer said he'd speak to the vagrant. But a few moments later, the vagrant was still there, pacing the street.
In their account, The Federalist's correspondents conclude:
The squalor that those in the city (whether they live there or work there) are forced to endure is unbecoming of the nation’s capital — and if any of the propaganda journalists or indifferent police officers had any respect for the city whatsoever, they’d be looking forward to federal takeover, too.
It's not just in the District, mind you, and it's not all vagrants. While this next nut is across the river in Arlington, Virginia, we note that not all the lunatics are homeless. Some are just garden-variety unhinged lefties.
He seems nice. Is it a he? It's hard to tell with these people.

This is what's wrong, not only with our capital city, but with pretty much all of America's cities right now. This is why President Trump federalized the District's cops and sent in the National Guard. This is intolerable and cannot be allowed to continue.
Meanwhile, the Democrats keep on with their same old schtick:
Fortunately, with each new day, with each new crime, with each new victim, and with each new screaming homeless addict, the tide is turning.
Editor's Note: The days of lawlessness in Washington, D.C. are over. Thanks to President Trump, our nation's capital will be SAFE once again.
