Former New Jersey Governor and two-time presidential candidate Chris Christie weighed in on Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s Thursday appearance before the Senate Finance Committee during a roundtable discussion on ABC News' This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
Indicative of Christie's Trump resentment, Christie maligned Kennedy's testimony, calling him a "foolish man full of vapid ideas."
You looked at that appearance before Congress, and it just confirms what all of us around this table have known for decades. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is a foolish man, full of foolish and vapid ideas.

The jokes of course, write themselves. Whatever you think of his ideas, at 71, Kennedy is in the peak of health and there is no doubt he is actively working to help Americans do the same. At 63, almost a decade younger than Kennedy, Christie looks as though he couldn't run a mile, let alone run for office again.
And as for Christie's "ideas?" It's the typical think tank, echo chamber blather that has gotten him nowhere close to the power he desires. As HHS Secretary, Kennedy is a key member of a White House cabinet which is making transformational changes on behalf of the American people. So, Christie's Sunday comments not only come off as snide, but reek of jealousy. Not too long ago, Christie no doubt imagined he'd be one of the movers and shakers in Trump's cabinet. However, he decided to distance himself from Trump after the 2020 election, and he sealed his fate. Now Christie contents himself with nibbling around the edges of D.C. power, while never being able get an actual bite of the action.
Christie has been relegated to dining out on the past. In 2024, he took a gig lecturing at Yale University about how to run a political campaign. Christie has not run a successful campaign since he won re-election in 2014. In his presidential forays in 2016 and 2024, he never even made it past the primaries. Christie courted Trump in both 2016 and 2020 because he wanted to be United States Attorney General. He was roundly rejected, and when he thought Trump had fallen out of favor and was sure to be indicted, he decided to carve out his niche as vociferous Trump critic. So original.
As any good D.C. denizen does, Christie greases his palm with public speaking engagements, like the laughable "Principles First," conference, while putting his name on ghost-written books about how Republicans can stay relevant and win on ideas. Two things he hasn’t been able to do in over a decade.
This is the very definition of a grift; but, in for a penny, in for a pound.

Christie also serves his purpose as a legacy media retread for the likes of ABC and Stephanopoulos, who are still reeling over having to apologize and pay out $15 million in defamation to Trump. So, Christie dutifully plays attack dog under the guise of "opinion" as he further attacked Kennedy and a complicit Republican Congress who voted him in as HHS Secretary.
And that was on display again this week in front of Congress. And I really don't want to hear about Bill Cassidy, Because he is a co-conspirator with the President of the United States for putting this wholly unqualified man in charge of 25 percent of all government spending. Without Cassidy's vote, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. would not be in. And maybe he's feeling some guilt from what he did.
True to form, Christie went on a TDS rant because, it really is all his fault.
But I'll tell you this: The president did this. He knows, the president is smart enough to know RFK Jr. doesn't belong in that job. But after he won, he wanted to show everybody I can do whatever I want to do, because this Senate will be compliant no matter what I do. And I'll put the greatest vaccine and public health denier of the last 20 years in charge of public health in America. It's a human middle finger, George, to everyone who opposed him.
Christie has been getting that middle finger since 2020, so he easily recognizes it. Stephanopoulos chimed in with the observation that, "the President didn't seem rattled by it."
Christie responded, "Because he knows if it gets much worse he can just can him. And that's what he will do if it gets much worse."
WATCH:
The roundtable ventured into the COVID vaccine and Christie squared off with former Republican Chairman Reince Priebus, who defended Kennedy as the right choice for the job.
Frankly, it's a spurious argument. For over 20 years, public health has failed the public and done the opposite of its stated goals. This reached peak insanity during the COVID pandemic. So, Christie's arguments about qualifications and vapid ideas rings as credible as Sen. Elizabeth Warren's claim to Native American heritage.
Christie has been even more hostile toward President Trump since he began trolling him on Truth Social about re-opening an investigation into Bridgegate. This was the 2014 scandal that almost tanked Christie's Republican credentials. As Trump watchers fully understand, while the president's postings give the appearance of school boy jabs, they are more about pre-gaming potential bombshells and wearing down his opponents. So, if Trump follows his usual course, I would keep my eyes peeled for another shoe to drop concerning Chris Christie.
