NextImg:California Thumbs Its Nose at Trump, Doubles Down on Allowing Men in Women's Sports

California continues to lead the nation in zaniness and extreme progressivism, and on Monday they doubled down on an issue that 80 percent of the public disagrees with—allowing biological males to compete against women and girls in athletics.

The U.S. Education Department found the state to be in violation of Title IV guidelines and therefore threatened to pull federal funding, but they offered an off-ramp: sign a Resolution Agreement and change your ways, and we’ll restore the funding.

On Monday, the state’s Education Department told the Trump administration to take a long walk off a short pier, as Golden State Republican Rep. Kevin Kiley noted on social media:

Finding Out: Trump Is Reportedly About to Slash Federal Funds for California

The proposed resolution asked the state to take a number of steps to right the many wrongs it has allowed:

The Resolution Agreement requires a number of actions, including that the “CDE will require all Recipients, including CIF, to restore to female athletes all Individual records, titles, and awards misappropriated by male athletes competing in female competitions. To each female athlete to whom an individual recognition is restored, CDE will send a personalized letter apologizing on behalf of the state of California for allowing her educational experience to be marred by sex discrimination.”

As we reported, the University of Pennsylvania recently agreed to similar requirements, much to the (deserved) delight of outspoken activist and former University of Kentucky swim star Riley Gaines.

At RedState, we have posted countless stories on the unfairness and safety concerns of allowing males to compete against females, yet California and its hair-gelled governor Gavin Newsom insist on dying on this hill. They are doing a serious disservice to Golden State residents—especially students—by thumbing their nose in the eye of the Trump administration and continuing to cling to this extreme, divisive issue.

We’ll have to wait and see how the Education Department and its Secretary Linda McMahon will respond, but based on their actions so far, it’s unlikely that they will take kindly to this idiotic defiance. If and when Newsom runs for president, this issue should be hammered relentlessly. After all, he admitted in March that allowing boys to compete against girls is “deeply unfair"—yet he’s allowed the practice to continue unabated.

That is known as hypocrisy, and the Trump administration is going to make him pay for it.
