New Jersey's Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is on lockdown, the reason for which is as yet unknown.
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey is on lockdown, according to a Tuesday social media post.
“ALL PERSONNEL ARE TO LOCKDOWN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. ALL PERSONNEL OUTDOORS SHOULD TAKE COVER,” a Facebook post from the Air Force base reads.
No reason is given for the lockdown. The Governor of New Jersey has responded:
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) followed up, urging individuals on site to follow instructions.
“There is a currently a lockdown in place at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. If you are on the base, please follow the instructions of your commanders and emergency response officials,” Murphy wrote in a post on X.
The cause of the lockdown is currently unknown. The base is located in Burlington County.
At least one report claims that the lockdown is due to an active shooter, but neither the military, the government of New Jersey, nor any of the major news services has yet reported that.
So far, all we know for certain is that there is a lockdown order. Details are sure to be forthcoming in time.
