Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) needed only a few words to blow up the latest Democrat lie about the Schumer Shutdown after Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ) attacked him for not swearing her in while the government is closed.
During Johnson's appearance on Wednesday on Fox News, the host asked the speaker about Grijalva's accusations that Republicans won't swear her in because they are afraid of her being the 218th signer on a Jeffrey Epstein petition to release the files, and that if she were a Republican, Johnson would've sworn her in amid the shutdown. Grijalva won a special election in September.

"I say 'bless her heart,'" Johnson said, using the southern term that is anything but complimentary, as anyone who is a frequent RedState reader knows all too well. "She's a representative-elect; she doesn't know how it works around here. We're going to give her the oath of office as soon as we get back to regular session. As soon as [Sen.] Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and the Democrats vote to reopen the government."
"We got a lot to do here. They are the ones holding it up," he added. "What Representative Grijalva doesn't understand is that there's a certain tradition and process that we engage in here to administer the oath."
Pressed by the host about Grijalva's accusation, claiming it was unprecedented not being sworn, Johnson reminded everyone that something similar happened in 2020 when the Speaker of the House then was Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and no one cried a single teardrop.
"My colleague Julia Letlow from Louisiana was elected in a special election under very certain circumstances, and Nancy Pelosi, who was speaker at the time, took 25 days to administer the oath to Julia Letlow. Nobody threw a fit. Nobody engaged in a publicity stunt because Nancy Pelosi was doing that on the legislative calendar."
"I'm doing the same thing," he added. "It has nothing to do with Epstein. That's absurd. It's a moot point. The House Oversight Committee is digging into the Epstein file and putting out the documents almost in real time. 34,000 documents so far. You got some of the biggest bulldogs in Congress, Republicans and Democrats, who are dialed in on that. And that work is going on around the clock even while Congress is closed, the government is shut down because of Chuck Schumer's antics."

Johnson's comments about a publicity stunt are a reference to what Grijalva and other Democrats did on Tuesday night when they tried to storm Johnson's office and made clowns of themselves, as my RedState colleague Bonchie reported.

Democrats attempted to storm House Speaker Mike Johnson's office on Tuesday evening, with one representative accosting a police officer who stepped in to stop them. The mostly female members marched through the halls of the Capitol Building, holding signs reading "swear her in" while chanting the same phrase. That's a reference to Adelita Grijalva, who recently won a special election in Arizona.
Johnson has understandably refused to move forward with seating Grijalva as long as Democrats continue to keep the government shut down. On that front, an eighth attempt to pass a Republican-backed clean continuing resolution failed in the Senate just hours prior. Still, the Democrats gathered the cameras (because this was nothing but a lame photo op) and tried to force their way into Johnson's office anyway, apparently not seeing the irony in their demand.
Funny how the Democrats get upset when Republicans treat them exactly the same way the Dems treated the GOP when they were in power. What goes around comes around.
