Everyone with enough economic savvy to pound sand knows that the communist New York City mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani, would spend New York into ruin. His policies would be ruinous; the productive will flee at an ever-increasing rate, tax revenues will crash, city services will collapse: All the things that come with socialist/communist governments.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has predicted that New York will come to the federal government looking for a handout, only to find that the door will slam in his face.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned on Wednesday that if Zohran Mamdani carries out his socialist economic plans as mayor, New York City will come begging Washington for a bailout – and he won’t give them one.

"I guarantee you, and there're not a lot of things in life that are sure, but New York City will be coming to the federal government for a bailout if Mamdani’s plans are implemented," Bessent told FOX Business' Maria Bartiromo.

"And are you going to give them that bailout?" asked Bartiromo. 

"It will be the same thing that Gerald Ford said. Drop dead," Bessent said during his interview on "Mornings with Maria."

This is the correct answer: "Drop dead," "Get stuffed," or "you made your bed, now lie in it." Secretary Bessent also states, as noted above, that New York will rapidly lost the productive classes if the commie Mamdani gets any portion of his agenda enacted:

Bessent added that New York risks losing its tax base if Mamdani’s plans take effect: "All the high earners, all the businesses. If you look back over the past five years, we’ve already seen the greatest transfer of wealth in U.S. history from Manhattan County to Palm Beach County."

New York isn't the only blue jurisdiction to be losing residents. So many of the productive are leaving the once-Golden State of California that one can't even find a U-Haul to take possessions from California to Texas, Florida, or Tennessee. 

Also, there's a matter of principle here. Under no circumstances should the federal government be bailing out any blue jurisdictions due to a calamity caused by an economically illiterate government. This isn't like an earthquake or hurricane; it's not a natural disaster. The people of New York will have voted Mamdani in, assuming he wins, and the people of New York, not the taxpayers of the United States at large, will be responsible for cleaning up the mess.

H.L. Mencken famously said:

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.

That's what will happen, even more so, if Zohran Mamdani is 1) elected Mayor of New York, and 2) manages to get any part of his loony-left agenda enacted. The people of New York, just like the people of many other "progressive" cities and states, are going to get their chosen governments and all that goes with them, good and hard.
