The government shutdown is on, and it's already providing some excellent contrasts between the truth and what Democrats claim the truth is.
For example, this is the first shutdown in history where the minority party that blocked a clean continuing resolution is supposedly not responsible for the shutdown. How very convenient, right? Meanwhile, we're getting epic levels of gaslighting regarding Democrats.

On that front, one of the major points of contention is expiring COVID-era subsidies that were meant to prop up Obamacare and state-level Medicaid systems. Democrats are insisting they be extended while Republicans are rightly pointing out that emergency appropriations are meant for emergencies and should not be used to prop up the left's Barack Obama-era healthcare disaster, otherwise known as the Affordable Care Act.
Further, because money is fungible, some of those subsidies end up filtering down to pay for healthcare for illegal immigrants. That's become a primary point of contention, which brings me to the aforementioned gaslighting. Enter Sen. Jeanee Shaheen, who walked right into a trap on Fox News when asked to account for the Democratic Party's support for funding healthcare for illegal aliens.
JONES: I haven't heard anyone in my party saying that illegal immigrants should get access to the health insurance marketplace.
SHAHEEN: I'm so glad you said that. Actually, I have some tape of your Democratic Party members saying this on the debate stage. So they've all said. Let's play the clip.
Lawrence Jones, the host in the clip, then plays footage from a 2020 presidential primary debate in which every single Democrat on stage raised their hand when asked if their healthcare plans would cover illegal immigrants. The crowd then cheers, showing broad support.
What are we even doing here? It's well known that blue states use the subsidies in question to fund their state-level programs, which do provide healthcare to illegal immigrants at the expense of law-abiding American citizens. The rest is just semantics. Democrats want to claim that because there's no specific appropriation called "money for illegal immigrant healthcare," Republicans are "lying." That's ridiculously dishonest, though.
Furthermore, it obscures that if Obamacare is so terrible that it requires massive bailouts every few years, then it shouldn't exist in the first place. Republicans didn't cause the healthcare "cliff" that Democrats are crying about. On the contrary, they tried to stop it.
The Obamacare chickens are coming home to roost. It is not my job as a taxpayer to keep funding failed Democrat programs. We told them this would happen, and not only didn't they listen, but the mainstream press lambasted us for speaking the truth. Well, here we are, and I don't think Republicans are very interested in crushing their constituents with higher taxes so Democrats can avoid taking responsibility for their horrible policies.
