Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) slammed the Democrats who boycotted a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing into the alleged cover-up of former President Joe Biden's mental decline.
In the clip shared on X on Wednesday, Cornyn noted that only two of his Democratic colleagues had attended the hearing into who was running the White House the last four years and the numerous uses of the autopen during Biden's term. Only Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Peter Welch (D-VT) were in attendance.
During the hearing, "Unfit to Serve: How the Biden Coverup Endangered America and Undermined the Constitution," Cornyn played a clip of Biden's comments over the last few years that were obvious signs of his cognitive decline, including parts of his disastrous debate against President Donald Trump that led to the end of his second run for the presidency.
The senator said we now know that there was a conspiracy to hide Biden's decline by his family, the White House staff, and even members of the media.
"Their self-interest and their fear of another Trump term justify an attempt to put an at-times addled old man in the Oval Office for four more years," he added, stating we need to know who was in charge unequivocally.
"Thank you to Senator Welch from Vermont for being here, leaving us with no other option than to take the boycott of this hearing as an admission of guilt for their role in this crisis," Cornyn continued. "We must not turn away from the search for answers. And it is not an overstatement to say that the future of our country could one day hinge on how we choose to act or not act on this very issue."
Senator Durbin used his time to play a clip of President Donald Trump and what he claimed were examples that he's mentally unfit for the job.
"Sen. Dick Durbin plays a heavily edited video of President Trump trying to claim he's mentally unfit," the clip by Media Research Center TV read. "This is the left's only defense of Joe Biden's real mental decline, and it's pathetic."
The video included numerous times Trump cracked jokes, which were clearly not what Durbin tried to claim.
Welch also walked out of the hearing after claiming it had no benefit for his constituents, Politico reported.
The hearing was announced last month by Cornyn and Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) following the release of CNN's Jake Tapper and Axios' Alex Thompson's book "Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, It's Coverup, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again."
RedState has reported numerous times about the revelations in the book. Tapper has claimed the "bottom line is the White House was lying to the press," "members of their own cabinet," "White House staffers," and everyone else about "how bad" Biden's decline had become.
However, as Fox News's Greg Gutfeld and others have pointed out, the press can't claim a cover-up of something Americans saw daily on their TV every time Biden spoke or appeared in public.
Despite everything we have learned about the efforts to cover up the mental decline of Biden, there are still those in the former president's circles, like Former State Department Spokesperson Marie Harf, who have refused to admit that Biden was unfit for office, RedState reported.
