This is why people don't trust the media anymore.
On Wednesday, agents from Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) took a guy named Ayman Soliman into custody after he met with ICE officials and a pre-arranged meeting. He's been in the United States for 10 years, under an asylum claim. But now, as a local media outlet, The Enquirer (No, not that Enquirer) breathlessly reports, his asylum status has been revoked, and Ayman Soliman may be on his way back to Egypt.
Federal immigration officials detained a former Cincinnati Children's hospital chaplain on July 9, about seven months after revoking his asylum status.
Friends and supporters of Imam Ayman Soliman said officials with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement took him into custody after a scheduled meeting with ICE in Blue Ash.
Soliman came to the United States from Egypt about a decade ago, according to federal court records, and received asylum status in June 2018. His supporters, including local clergy, politicians and representatives from Ignite Peace, said he was fleeing persecution in Egypt and feared his life would be in danger if ICE sent him home.
The report lets slip that his asylum claim was rescinded in December 2024:
At a press conference in the afternoon on July 9, those supporters said ICE officials rescinded Soliman's asylum in December 2024 and detained him after meeting with him and his lawyers earlier in the day. They said the meeting included FBI agents and lasted three hours.
So, during the Biden administration.
But there's a lot more that this article leaves unsaid. Assistant Secretary, Dept. of Homeland Security Tricia McLaughlin, on the other hand, took to her X account to reply to The Enquirer's link and presented some information that puts a whole new angle on this thing:
Fox News Bill Melugin, reliable as always in these matters, has more:
Mr. Melugin's post continues:
Sued Feds multiple times. Judge dismissed most of his claims, one lawsuit still pending.
- Met with ICE and the FBI for several hours yesterday before being arrested by ICE.
Shines a whole new light on all this, doesn't it?

This piece from The Enquirer reads like a veritable hagiography of Imam Ayman Soliman, describing him as a "Cincinnati chaplain," which is apparently going to be the new "Maryland husband and father." It describes in tearful tones the wailing and gnashing of teeth in the community because their imam, whose asylum status, remember, was revoked by the Biden administration, may well be sent back to where he rightfully belongs. And, of course, Soliman is, again according to this piece, complaining that he's targeted because he's a Muslim - we can suppose, just like all those Muslims who are being repatriated back to their homes in Honduras, Guatemala, and Venezuela, and other places in Latin America.
Of course, it doesn't matter if Ayman Soliman was in fact doing good work. He was here legally under an asylum claim, but that status was rescinded, not under the administration of Donald Trump but that of Joe Biden. When a claim like this is rescinded, for whatever reason, the claimant goes home. That's the law. End of story. And as far and the near-saintlike status of this guy, you can color me skeptical.
