Well, it seems it is possible to make a deal with Tehran after all - at least, a deal involving their taking back some of their own people who were in the United States illegally.
On Tuesday, we learned the United States will be deporting at least 120 Iranian nationals, who Tehran has agreed to receive. The number of deportees may go as high as 400.
That's what we call "a good start."
The Trump administration is deporting 120 Iranians, some of whom entered the country illegally, after the U.S. and Tehran reached a deal, according to reports.
Iranian officials told The New York Times that the planeload of migrants took off from Louisiana on Monday night and was expected to arrive in Iran via Qatar at some point on Tuesday. A U.S. official also reportedly confirmed the plan to the outlet.
This is evidently the first step in a larger plan to deport approximately 400 Iranian nationals, according to Reuters.
"The Trump Administration is committed to fulfilling President Trump’s promise to carry out the largest mass deportation operation of illegal aliens in history, using all the tools at our disposal," White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital on Tuesday.
Here's the real eye-opener:
Iranian officials also told the Times that in almost every case, the deportees either had asylum requests denied or had yet to appear before a judge for a hearing on their requests.
"We have urged the American government to respect the rights of Iranian migrants and their citizenship rights under international law. They must not be denied consular services, fair judicial process, or the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," Noushabadi told Tasnim news agency.
Another official told the news agency that the individuals being deported had left Iran legally, but how they entered the U.S. was "another matter." However, the official insisted that their return "faces no obstacle, as Iran will always support its citizens."
Iran is urging the United States to "...respect the rights of Iranian migrants?" Iran? Seriously? A nation that has zero respect for the human rights of its own citizens? A nation that puts people to death for apostasy - for converting to any religion other than Islam? A nation that has the death penalty for being gay? A nation that wraps women up in black robes until they resemble nothing more than perambulating trash bags? That Iran?
If that's not the international irony of the year, it will do until a better one comes along.

It's unclear how many Iranian nationals are in the country illegally, but it's a safe bet it's more than 400. It's probably more than 4,000. And, thanks to the fecklessness and lack of any pretense of border enforcement by the "Autopen Joe" Biden administration, we now don't know where most of them are, where they might be going, or what they intend to do when they get there. Sure, some of them are probably legitimately fleeing one of the most repressive theocracies on the planet, and we do have an asylum system for those legitimate claims. But the rest, any others we can round up who are here illegally?
Iran, we should note, is an adversary. Any of their people who are in the United States illegally should be presumed to be up to no good. 400 is a good start. Let's get to sending all of them back.
Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump and his administration’s bold leadership, we are respected on the world stage, and our enemies are being put on notice.
