That the President of the United States poses for photo ops should hardly be news to anyone. Most politicians do – it’s an expected part of the job. And often, those photo ops will relate to an agenda item they’re pushing – like trains and cars. Just ask Joe Biden – he’s driven them all – no joke!
One of his latest photo ops, though, really takes the cake. I don’t know if it properly falls under the heading of tone-deaf or ill-conceived or just plain old dumb – maybe it’s all three. In an effort to promote electric vehicles, Joe parked himself behind the wheel of a $100,000-plus GMC Hummer EV, so he could tweet out not one, but two ridiculous statements: First, “On my watch, the great American road trip is going to be fully electrified.” I don’t know exactly how long Joe thinks his watch is going to last, but maybe he should check it again.
Second, “And now, through a tax credit, you can get up to $7,500 on a new electric vehicle.” Got that, folks? Take all that extra dough burning a hole in your pocket and plunk down a cool 100K, so you can get 7500 bucks back. Of course, the credit currently only applies to vehicles capped at $80,000 – so it isn’t even good for the one he’s touting. Maybe there’s a Corvette EV?
