Wordle 660 4/6

⬜????⬜????????
????????????????????
My co-worker Nikita Richardson and I have this on-and-off tradition where we send each other our Wordles and discuss our strategies. She is convinced that the best first word is CRANE. When I’m feeling wild, I’ll do OCEAN — you know, because of all the vowels. Today, I went with CRANE, and I’m glad I did. This Wordle is the game at its best: a five-minute-or-less brain massage that makes you feel as if you’ve accomplished something but doesn’t make you want to throw your phone across the room.
I guessed this Wordle in four attempts. I’ve found that often, when it takes me four or more attempts to get the word, I probably could have made it in three if I had been thinking a little harder. Sometimes, I go with the first word that pops into my mind instead of the one that feels the most strategic (as in, it uses other common letters that might offer clues to the final word). I would have given this Wordle five out of five stars, but my third attempt was such a great word, and I was convinced that I had it and felt incredibly annoyed when it was not, in fact, the word.
Before I go, can we talk about the seemingly and surprisingly large number of people who get the Wordle on the first try? Are they cheating? Are they in cahoots with the Wordle editor? I have been playing this game since the beginning, and getting the word on the first try feels unfathomable to me.
Today’s word is UNDER. According to Webster’s New World College Dictionary, it’s a preposition meaning “lower than.”
