Talking About Periods Is Taboo. So We Talked About Them.

Ms. Plioplyte is a documentary filmmaker and film educator. This short film is based on her feature documentary “Periodical.”

The Opinion video above dives headfirst into a topic that remains stubbornly taboo: menstruation.

In a lively 3 minutes 33 seconds, 10 people describe their feelings about their own periods, from love and pride to discomfort and hate. The wide-ranging chorus is testament to how every woman has a different way of experiencing and relating to her own menstrual cycle.

“It’s just not talked about enough,” one participant declares, an admonishment that stands as the film’s call to action.
