Several people were shot at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in Dallas on Wednesday morning, Kristi Noem, the secretary of homeland security, said in a short statement.

There were “multiple injuries and fatalities” and the shooter was found dead of a “self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Ms. Noem said.

Details on the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available. The Dallas Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Texas Department of Public Safety said it did not yet have information to share.

“While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them,” Ms. Noem said. “It must stop.”
