Whether you’re waiting to see your favorite runners on the New York City Marathon course on Sunday or following them from home, the TCS New York City Marathon app lets you track them in real time.
The free app, which is available for Apple and Android, lets you track runners using their names or bib numbers. You can also search runners by running club, which is a timesaver if you’re cheering for several people in a club.
Runners can use the “share tracking” function in their profiles to send tracking links to friends and family.
You can sign up to get push notifications as the runners you’re tracking hit certain checkpoints throughout the race. And the app’s map feature shows where runners are projected to be based on their speed through the previous checkpoint.
The app includes livestreams that let you watch runners pass five locations along the course. The cameras will be set up at the start and finish of the race, on Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn, on First Avenue in Manhattan and at Mile 20 in the Bronx.
The app will also stream uninterrupted live footage of the leaders in each of the four races: pro men’s, pro women’s, men’s wheelchair and women’s wheelchair.
If you don’t want to use the app, you can track runners online at liveresults.nyrr.org.
And if you’re watching from home, you can catch the race live on ESPN2 and in Spanish on ESPN3 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Eastern time.
In New York, it will air locally on WABC-TV, Channel 7, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This year, ABC will air a two-hour live show nationally from 3 to 5 p.m. at the finish line covering celebrities and runners who finish during that time period, and WABC-TV will stream a view of the finish line from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on its website.
