NextImg:Zach Wilson MVP odds: No belief in Jets quarterback after Aaron Rodgers injury

Sportsbooks have no love for Zach Wilson to show any improvement this season.

Entering Monday as the clear backup who may never play for the Jets, he was 250/1 to win MVP at BetMGM.

That number has dropped to 150/1 now that he’s back to being the full-time starter. This is a minuscule change despite the massive increase in playing time.

His 250/1 odds represents just a 0.4 percent chance implied, while 150/1 comes in at .66 percent implied.

Wilson’s odds in 2022 were also 150/1 on Caesars, further showing that oddsmakers do not believe the former second-overall pick will take any steps forward in 2023

Wilson’s MVP odds are the second-lowest number of any starting quarterback in the NFL despite having one of the best-supporting casts in the league and is ahead of only CJ Stroud (200/1).

Fellow starters Bryce Young, Desmond Ridder, and Ryan Tannehill are also tied with Wilson at 150/1 to win the MVP award.

The Jets’ third-year signal caller went 14-for-21 passing for 140 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

He finished with a 49.6 Pro Football Focus Passing grade, ranking 27th of the 32 starting quarterbacks in Week 1 after starting most of the game.

Unfortunately, that’s right in line with his past two seasons, so New York’s passing attack doesn’t project to improve much from last year.

Wilson threw a horrific interception during the game, missing a wide-open Dalvin Cook on a check-down with room to run.

New York figures to bring in a veteran quarterback at some point in 2023, but that veteran is unlikely to play significant snaps in the near future.

For now, it’s Wilson’s job to lose, and no, it’s not worth a bet on MVP odds at 150/1.
