NextImg:Zac Stacy domestic violence victim didn’t want ex-NFLer in prison

Zac Stacy had an unlikely defender before he was sentenced to prison.

The ex-NFL running back was caught on video brutally assaulting his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, Kristin Evans, in her Florida home in late 2021.

Earlier this week, Stacy pled guilty to criminal mischief — and had battery charges dropped — and was sentenced to six months in prison plus one year probation earlier this week.

On Instagram on Tuesday, Evans wrote that she does not believe Stacy should be incarcerated from the incident.

“Jail does not offer resources needed for mental health patients,” she wrote. “It is not rehabilitative.

“The jail and prison system is a punishment in an authoritarian society made to oppress.

“I didn’t advocate for jail because the lack of resources, the lack of rehabilitation, the lack of education for mental health, and the psychological effect it may have on our son, having already developed a relationship with his father.”

She continued that the father and son are spending quality time together.

“Our son consistently FaceTimed his dad several times a week, he spends the entire weekend every other weekend, and he deserves to have that,” she wrote.

“So please give me some grace in understanding that I’m not being easy on Zac, rather I am trying to protect our son from anymore trauma.

“Nothing is black and white and not every abuser is the same. People who are willing to put in work to be better, deserve an opportunity to show that they can be better.

Stacy played for the Rams and Jets in a three-year NFL career that spanned from 2013 to 2015.

In the video accompanying the caption, Evans explained why she posted the videos exposing Stacy’s savage attack shortly after it happened.

“Before all of this happened to me and I released these videos, I really had no idea how the world worked,” she said.

“I was in an extremely vulnerable time in my life. The police were not arresting my abuser.

“He showed no signs of remorse and he ran to another state, so I released the video.”

At the time of Stacy’s arrest in 2021, police said that he “struck [Evans] on the right side of her head, and picked her up and threw her against the television, causing it to crack and fall over.”

“He continued yelling at her and striking her while she got up from the floor, and picked her up again and threw her into the baby’s bouncy chair.

“While she was still on the floor pleading for him to stop, he picked her up and body-slammed her onto a baby walker, causing the object to break.”

Speaking with police, Stacy accused Evans of “staging” the assault in retaliation for his unwillingness to commit to a longterm relationship.
