Let’s get this…cheese?!
The American YouTuber IShowSpeed had to nurse his wounds at the hospital after braving a steep slope for a traditional cheese-rolling race in England.
IShowSpeed – born Darren Jason Watkins Jr. and known as “Speed” to his fans – documented the stunt on his channel, where he boasts nearly 25 million subscribers.
“This may be one of the most dangerous videos ever,” Speed told the camera in the video, which was posted Monday morning.
“I really hope I don’t die — but we turning up!” he added.
The YouTuber walked through a crowd of jubilant onlookers ready to watch scores of daring runners chase a Double Gloucester cheese down the daunting Cooper’s Hill.
Per local tradition, the first racer who finishes behind the speedy cheese gets to keep the wheel.
The race, which takes place about 100 miles west of London, has been held since at least 1826.
“That s–t’s steep!” Speed marveled once he got within sight of the hill.
After a few minutes, however, he seemed to fancy he chances better.
“I got that, bro,” he reassured the person behind the camera.
Eventually, Speed joined the racers poised at the top of the hill. Once the cheese wheel was thrown, he tumbled on his backside down the muddy slope for a couple yards before leaping to his feet and running clumsily the rest of the way.
Speed came in fourth place – losing out to Tom Kopke, from Munich, Germany.
The YouTuber struggled to get up off the ground at first, clutching his thighs and moaning “that s–t hurts bad.”
He was examined by on-site medics, who determined the strenuous run had reaggravated an old leg injury and resulted in a fracture.
The pain, however, did not stop Speed from hobnobbing with the other competitors – and hamming it up for the camera – before leaving for the hospital.
“It looks scary, but once that first slide, you’re like, ‘you know what, I can do this,’” Speed told the BBC after the heart-pounding finish.
“I want to do it again because I know how to win now,” he added.
