Observations from Thursday’s Jets practice.
With thoughts of Dalvin Cook dancing through Jets fans’ heads, two young running backs had strong practices. Zonovan Knight and Israel Abanikanda both had nice runs in the red-zone period. You wonder what happens to the young backs if the team does sign Cook.
The team’s depth at wide receiver is becoming an issue already. Late in practice Thursday, the top wide receivers were Irvin Charles, Malik Taylor and Mecole Hardman. With Garrett Wilson (ankle), Allen Lazard (muscle tightness), Corey Davis (illness) and Randall Cobb (PUP) all out, the Jets looked thin at the position.
Rookie DE Will McDonald can fly around the edge. The No. 15 overall pick is explosive and is abusing some of the Jets tackles. McDonald has such a quick first step that it looks like he is in the backfield before the ball is snapped.
It was a light day for Rodgers as the Jets did not do a lot of team drills. He went 6 of 8 in team drills with one near interception by Quincy Williams.

Rodgers did hit rookie Jason Brownlee, who was wide open, for a 25-yard touchdown.
Wilson limped off the field and was undergoing testing, but the Jets said they believed the injury was not serious. … Davis was ill and could not practice. … OT Mekhi Becton (knee) returned to practice but did not participate in team drills. … TE C.J. Uzomah participated in his first practice since being activated off the PUP list.
