In the midst of a coffee brand legal battle between Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and series star Cole Hauser, an old interview has spilled the beans on some potential previous drama that transpired between the two.
According to The Daily Mail, a resurfaced Mens Journal interview with Hauser published in April 2022 reveals that the two reportedly got into a fight years ago, just the second time they had met each other. While the story didn’t specify further details about when or where the alleged fight took place, Hauser claimed, with respect to bar fights, that he’s “probably been in one on every continent.”
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with fighting,” he told Mens Journal at the time. “Sometimes I’m just tired of words, so let’s beat the shit out of each other. Maybe at the end of it you’ll buy me a Guinness and I’ll buy you a Bushmills, and we’ll be done. It’s kind of what guys do.”
Sheridan — who is the owner of Bosque Ranch, which created a coffee brand in June — filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Hauser’s Free Rein Coffee Company on Nov. 21, accusing the latter of employing an extremely similar logo, and citing “unfair competition and false advertising,” per San Angelo Live.
Bosque Ranch’s registered trademark features the letters “B” and “R” connected on top of each other. According to the outlet, the company has been using since the logo since 2004 and had received federal registrations for in it 2020. Bosque Ranch feels Free Rein’s logo, featuring the letters “F” and “R” fused together on top of each other, would lead to confusion among prospective customers.
Hauser launched his Free Rein Coffee Company in October, after acquiring it under its original name of Longhorn Coffee in 2022, per Vulture. According to the LA Times, the company’s website also informs prospective customers that Hauser sought out a brand that “embodied the spirit of the West,” further resembling Bosque Ranch’s branding.
Decider reached out to both coffee companies, as well as representatives for Hauser and Sheridan, but did not hear back in time of publication.
