The Yankees will send southpaw Carlos Rodon to the mound in a must-winGame 2 of the American League wild-card series Wednesday.
They’ll hope for better results against a team that has been a bane to Rodon for the past couple of years.
In three starts against the Red Sox this season, Rodon posted a 5.74 ERA across 15 ⅔ innings.
Rodon couldn’t get through the sixth inning in any of those outings and didn’t strike out more than five batters in any of them.
It wasn’t much better for him against Boston in 2024.
During that season, Rodon had a 4.86 ERA in three outings against the Red Sox.
It hasn’t been any one thing that’s plagued him against the Yankees’ arch rival – he’s pitched much worse than usual across the board.

This season, Rodon has struck out just 12 Red Sox hitters in 15 ⅔ innings, which is well below his 9.35 strikeout per nine rate.
While Rodon fixed his home run issues from the past two seasons, giving up just 1.01 homers per nine innings during the regular season, the Red Sox still got to him, hitting two across those three games.
He’s been even wilder than usual, too, walking 16 Red Sox batters in 32 ⅓ innings over the past two seasons.
Six below par starts are the beginning of a trend.
Bet Rodon to have some trouble with the BoSox in The Bronx on Wednesday, with a trip to the divisional round on the line.
