NextImg:Yankees vs. Blue Jays prediction: MLB odds, picks, best bets

The Yankees pulled out a gutsy 6-3 win in Toronto last night despite the ejection of starting pitcher Domingo German.

It was the Yankees’ seventh win in nine tries, as the Bronx Bombers are finally putting it all together.

The good news: the Yankees will get Gerrit Cole on the mound today.

The bad news: this game will be aired exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, one of 20 games to which the streaming service has exclusive rights.

You should still be able to find the game on MLB.tv, or you probably have an Amazon Prime Video subscription anyway.

Whether you watch it or don’t watch it, I’d recommend putting some money behind Cole in this matchup.

Moneyline: Yankees (-116) vs. Blue Jays (-102)

Spread: Yankees -1.5 (+138) vs. Blue Jays +1.5 (-166)

Total: Over 8 (-112) | Under 8 (-108)

Cole’s had a few rough starts, but his last two outings came against Tampa Bay. The Blue Jays feature a great offense, but the Rays are producing at a historically-great level – the Rays are 19% better at run production against right-handed pitching than any team in baseball.

So, any other team will be a step down in competition for Cole, and I think the superstar ace will take advantage.

Cole already tore apart the Blue Jays in April, pitching six innings of four-hit, shutout ball in a 3-2 Yankees win.

Meanwhile, the time to fade Chris Bassitt is now.

He was brilliant against the Braves, but Bassitt will not post back-to-back complete-game shutout starts. If anything, he’s overvalued following that heroic effort.

Actually, Bassitt is overvalued in general. He pairs a 3.49 ERA with a 4.69 expected ERA, and his walk rate is now over 11%.

Bassitt should return to earth against the Yankees, especially since the Bronx Bombers boast the best team wRC+ over the past two weeks (135).

I would bet the Yankees on the full-game ML, but the bullpen was heavily used following German’s exit on Tuesday.

So, instead, I recommend backing the undervalued Cole while fading the overvalued Bassitt, and betting that edge at odds close to (-120) is a steal. Of course, it’s a bonus that the Yankees are crushing the ball.
