Noteworthy items during the Yankees’ Grapefruit League action Tuesday:
Non-roster invitee Jose Rojas, a utility player who played last season in the KBO, crushed a home run to the batter’s eye in center field during the Yankees’ 4-2 loss to the Rays at Charlotte Sports Park.
Everson Pereira lost a fly ball to left field in the sun, allowing Josh Lowe to reach on what was ruled a double against Clarke Schmidt.
Lowe came around to score, which was the only blemish on Schmidt’s line.
Anthony Volpe, who spent the offseason trying to flatten his swing path, went the other way for an RBI triple on a sinking liner that got past the diving right fielder.
At his best, Volpe is able to use all fields, an approach the Yankees hope to see more of this year.
The Yankees have their first off day of camp.
