ATLANTA — The Yankees’ top target for third base should be as obvious as their need. It has to be Diamondbacks All-Star Eugenio Suárez, who’s having perhaps his best year at age 33.
Suárez leads the National League in RBIs with 78, and his 31 home runs are one behind NL leader Shohei Ohtani.
Better yet, he’s right-handed.
The Yankees’ struggles with left-handers despite having perennial MVP leader Aaron Judge and Hall of Fame-bound Giancarlo Stanton are also obvious. Although Suárez is hitting right-handers and left-handers about equally this year (.885 OPS vs. lefties, .896 vs. righties), in his career he has an .856 mark vs. lefties and .787 vs. righties.
