Cam Schlittler did his job.
The rest of the Yankees mostly did not.
The Blue Jays rolled to a 5-2 win in ALDS Game 4 on Wednesday night in The Bronx, ending the Yankees’ season and their quest for a second straight American League pennant.
Schlittler delivered another solid performance, allowing four runs — but just two earned — over 6 1/3 innings for the Yankees.
Ryan McMahon delivered one of the lone highlights of the game for the Yankees with a game-tying solo homer in the bottom of the third inning, though Toronto would go up for good in the fifth inning.
However, it was in the top of the seventh when the momentum shifted entirely to Toronto. With one out and one on in the frame, Blue Jays shortstop Andres Gimenez hit a would-be double play ball to Jazz Chisholm Jr., who saw the ball bounce off his glove and into the outfield to put runners on the corners.
After Devin Williams entered and got the second out, Nathan Lukes blooped a single into left-center to bring in two runs. Toronto added one more on a Myles Straw hit in the next frame.
The Yankees, who left 10 on base, had a golden chance to get back into the game in the eighth when Austin Wells came up with the bases loaded. But on one pitch, Jeff Hoffman got him to fly out to left to end the threat.
One AL East team will be playing for a chance to make the World Series, it just won’t be the Yankees.
