LOS ANGELES — Nestor Cortes is likely joining the Yankees’ walking wounded.

The left-hander is “probably” headed for the injured list with a shoulder issue, manager Aaron Boone said Sunday.

Cortes will undergo an MRI exam on Monday or Tuesday back in New York to determine the extent of his injury.

Boone said Cortes had not been recovering well enough between starts, experiencing some “achiness” in his shoulder.

“Don’t think it’s anything too major,” Boone said.

Cortes has pitched to a 5.16 ERA across 11 starts this season, coming off an All-Star campaign in 2022.

Most of his issues this season have come late in his outings, particularly when he faces a lineup the third time through.

The last time he pitched was Tuesday in Seattle, when he tossed four scoreless innings before giving up a pair of runs in the fifth.

But he and the Yankees left the game encouraged with where he was at, though that progress will now be stalled.

Cortes would join fellow starters Carlos Rodon and Frankie Montas on the IL after Luis Severino was also injured to start the season before coming back in May.

Cortes was in line to start on Tuesday against the White Sox after Monday’s day off, but instead the Yankees have listed Clarke Schmidt as the probable starter for that game on normal rest.

Wednesday’s starter is listed as “TBD.”

The Yankees could call up Jhony Brito or Randy Vasquez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Cortes’ spot in the rotation.

Brito last pitched on Thursday while Vasquez followed him on Friday, meaning both could be fully rested to start Wednesday.

Brito recorded a 5.58 ERA in 10 starts for the Yankees before being optioned to Triple-A when Severino returned from the IL.

Vasquez, meanwhile, tossed 4 ⅔ solid innings of two-run ball in his MLB debut against the Padres last week while Domingo German was serving his suspension.
