Ten days after opting out of his Yankees deal, Dominic Smith is back.

The Yankees re-signed Smith to a minor league deal, the club announced on Monday, giving them more left-handed hitting depth at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Smith had put together a strong camp as a non-roster invite but when he triggered his opt-out on March 21, the Yankees did not add him to the major league roster because they were already too left-handed heavy, especially with Ben Rice winning the DH job.

After hitting free agency, though, the 29-year-old first baseman/left fielder/DH has returned to the Yankees after hitting .297 with a .857 OPS in 13 Grapefruit League games.

Smith, the former Met, provides insurance if any of the Yankees’ lefty bats go down.

“He came in and has done everything he’s needed to do,” manager Aaron Boone said the day Smith opted out of his deal. “Clearly he’s a big league player. He’s been great in the room, he’s performed, feel like he’s in really good shape.”
