Heroes and zeros from the Yankees’ 5-2 season-ending loss to the Blue Jays in ALDS Game 4 at the Stadium.
Cam Schlittler against a bullpen game seemed like a matchup until Johnny Wholestaff was put into motion. Eight different Blue Jays pitchers held the Yankees to six hits and two runs while striking out nine.
After an excellent wild-card series, Anthony Volpe sunk to 1-for-15 with 11 strikeouts in the ALDS. He chased Strike 3 in the seventh inning and heard loud boos on the way to the dugout. In the ninth, Aaron Boone sat Volpe for pinch-hitter Jasson Domínguez.
There wasn’t a bigger hit than Nathan Lukes’ two-run single poked into left-center to allow Toronto some breathing room in the seventh.
Years without a Yankees World Series championship.
